Tyler Gatewood Kent (1911-1988) was born in Newchang, Manchuria, China, where his father was a career officer in the American diplomatic service. Following in his father's footsteps, Kent was appointed to a diplomatic post in Moscow in 1933 and remained there for six years. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt. He married Anna Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905, and had six children: Anna, James, Franklin, Elliott, Franklin Jr., John.
